This is an original work by David Coates.

The picture shows a pastel painting with a quiet, wintery mountain scene. In the foreground, a pale river or stream curves gently through the snow, its dark, mirrored surface reflecting the trees and the soft colors of the sky. The snowbanks on either side are smooth and luminous, giving the scene a calm, frozen stillness.

Beyond the winding water, a stand of tall evergreens rises near the center-right, their dark shapes contrasting sharply with the white ground around them. In the distance, rugged mountains dominate the background, their slopes dusted with snow and touched by warm pink and peach tones, as if catching the light of early morning or late afternoon. Above them, the sky is a mixture of blue and white clouds, cool and bright, adding a crisp clarity to the entire composition.

The painting feels serene and contemplative, with a strong sense of depth and atmosphere. The blend of icy blues, soft whites, and warm mountain highlights creates a natural balance between chill and warmth, stillness and movement. The simple frame around the artwork gives it a finished, gallery-like presence.

The work is 24.5" Wide by 30.5" Tall.
