This is a Raku styled pottery created by David Emerson Eglese.

A squat, sculptural vessel, the kind of object you might find in a modern gallery or a quiet corner of a studio. Its body is rounded and bulbous, narrowing slightly at the base and again beneath a fitted lid. The surface is heavily textured — vertical drips and grooves run down the sides like the ribs of a slowly weathering tree trunk, and small circular medallions are set around the shoulder, giving it a handcrafted, almost totemic quality.

The color palette is earthy and complex: deep, muted greens and charcoal greys mingle with rusty reds and hints of ochre where the glaze or patina has pooled and streaked. The finish reads matte in places and subtly glossy in others, with evidence of drips and kiln marks that suggest ceramic techniques or deliberate distressing. Crowning the piece is a long, narrow handle shaped like a stylized bird, perched on two short posts — its silhouette is elegant and slightly playful against the heavier mass below. Soft light picks out the ridges and gives the vessel a quiet presence, while its shadow anchors it, emphasizing the object’s weight and handcrafted character.

This pottery was created in 2025.

The work is 9" tall by 10" wide.
