This is an original abstract Artwork created by Leonard Matte.
This work is created with Acrylic paints on a Double Beveled Gallery Canvas.
Leonard has a story to go with the subject matter of this picture:
Patches loves to climb trees for a better view. She watches diligently for another feline just below, or a chirping bird above that is just out of reach. When on the look out, it is important to be very quiet. She is careful not to purr or to meow.
The image shows a calico cat nestled comfortably among rugged tree trunks or large bark-covered branches. The cat’s coat is a soft, mottled blend of white, orange, gray, and black, with the coloring spread in irregular, painterly patches across its body. Its face is turned slightly toward the viewer, giving it an alert but calm expression, with pale eyes that seem to watch quietly from its sheltered perch.
The setting feels natural and textured, almost like a woodland scene captured in a painterly style. The rough, dark bark of the trees frames the cat on both sides, creating a sense of depth and enclosure, as if the animal has claimed this spot as a safe lookout. Warm beige and muted earthy tones in the background soften the composition, while the contrast between the cat’s lighter fur and the darker bark makes the subject stand out clearly.
Overall, the image has a tranquil, slightly rustic atmosphere. It blends the stillness of a resting animal with the strength and permanence of the surrounding trees, creating a scene that feels both intimate and quietly majestic.
Leonard makes the canvases for these pictures himself, they have a double beveled angle that comes out to a point. On these pictures, he has decided to tonally change the colours on the edges slightly to make the picture have the "feel of a frame without a frame".
