I have always admired the beauty of different wood types with their unique textures and grain patterns . Whether it is an expensive hardwood board or the limb of a tree, every piece is different from the last. After working on flat wood projects as a hobby for many years I decided to try woodturning and was instantly hooked. Almost all of my projects start from salvaged trees destined for the fire pit or landfill. Although I have an idea of what I want to make when I start a project, it is the wood that ultimately determines the size and shape as the layers are slowly carved away. Quite often the finished product ends up being very different from what I had envisioned at the start. Adding different colours, textures and finishes helps to enhance the beauty of the natural grain patterns. I feel privileged to have the tools and the ability to unlock the beauty that is hidden inside each piece of wood.
