Artist Statement: 

I started pottery back in 1986 or 1987, through the Red Deer Pottery Club. Over the years I became involved with a process called Raku. I built my own kiln's, 4 to date, which can be fired with wood or propane to temperatures up to 1860 Fahrenheit. The pots are taken out of the kiln with tongs and placed into reduction pits ( metal cans), with combustibles such as paper and wood shavings. After the paper ignites, a lid is placed on the cans to cause a reduction atmosphere where the oxygen in reduced, which gives the Raku glazes their colour.

This is what makes Raku so empowering, you never know exactly what you are going to get.

I've Worked with many different people over the years, mostly from the Red Deer Pottery Club, and out passions grew into other methods of firing pottery: Saggar, Obvera, Pit, Ferric Chloride and Horse Hair. 

I attended Red Deer College in the ceramics department for 1- 1/2 semesters from 2016 to 2017. 

Other mediums I enjoy are ornamental iron works, wood carving, drawing and furniture building.

The possibilities in pottery are infinitesimal and the main reason I'm still doing it after 36 years.
