Collection: Elizabeth Schapansky

Elizabeth's training in the arts has been an ongoing part of her life; from the time she could first hold a pencil. Most of her learning has taken place in the form of an insatiable curiosity and desire to try it all; whether it be watercolor, oil paint or paintings chosen as some of the best to show at the Alberta Wide Art Shows.

In the fall of 1993, she had the opportunity to work for a production potter in Kamloops British Columbia. After spending many years saying "She would like to try pottery one day", she finally had her chance. With some encouragement from her boss, she enrolled in a two-year ceramics program at the University College of the Caribou in Kamloops. Elizabeth finished at the top of her class and had some of her work published in the Canadian ceramics magazine "Contact".

To continue to grow and keep things fresh she alternates between functional pottery pieces, sculptures and wall hangings.

Artist Statement:

Art is Subjective. The Oxford Dictionary defines it like this:

"The Quality of being based on or influenced by personal feeling, tastes or opinions"

No two people have the same taste or style. The artist/maker leaves a part of themselves to be explored and appreciated by their audience.

Clay works are not only a visual medium, but also tactile- this is what draws me back to the clay every time. It is my Anchor in an increasingly stressful world. It keeps me 'centered'.
