This is a textile original work created by Margaret Blank.

Crafted through a fiber-based technique, rug hooking pieces of yarn or strips of fabric in through a backing material. In this case, the backing material is burlap.

This image presents a richly textured scene that resembles a vibrant, impressionistic landscape. The visual texture is lush, with small, looped or tufted loops of yarn or fabric that form distinct patches of color.

In the foreground, numerous yellow tones blend with hints of green, suggesting a field glowing with wildflowers like dandelions bathed in sunlight. This area pulses with warmth and vitality, giving a tactile, almost three-dimensional presence to the plants.

Moving back, a dark greenish to black band of dense tufts represents a line of trees or shrubs, offering a natural boundary and contrast to the bright field.

Beyond the tree line, a small house or building emerges in a striking red hue with white walls — a focal point that introduces human presence into this serene natural setting. The structure brings a sense of scale and a cozy, familiar story of countryside life.

Above, the sky is a soft, swirling blue canvas with fluffy, white clouds scattered throughout. The clouds’ rounded tuft shapes complement the field’s textured look, evoking a peaceful day under open skies.

Artistically, this piece employs texture and color to evoke warmth and calm, reminiscent of rural pastoral paintings. The blend of colors and the detailed yet abstracted nature of the elements remind one of Pointillism or other impressionistic techniques, though rendered in fiber rather than paint.

Symbolically, the house nestled among natural beauty can be interpreted as a symbol of refuge, stability, or harmony between human life and nature. The overall tactile feel encourages a closer, more mindful engagement with everyday landscapes, emphasizing the richness found in simple natural scenes.

This piece was created in 2024.

The dimensions of the art is 8" x 10".

This piece is part of our "Fields of Gold" Temporary exhibit. Come and see it in person through the months of August and September 2025.
