This is an original artwork created by Larry Reese
This image presents a vibrant and dynamic aerial view of a water landscape, brought to life with a painterly style that emphasizes the expansive sky, rolling landforms, and the lake below. The scene captures the essence of freedom and vastness, making you feel as if you are soaring alongside the seagulls depicted in the foreground.
The three seagulls draw immediate attention, their wings spread wide as they glide effortlessly above the water. The largest seagull, in the forefront, is rendered with fine detail, featuring sharp eyes and an intense gaze, symbolizing keen observation and freedom. The other two seagulls further back create a sense of depth and movement, guiding the viewer’s eye deeper into the scene.
The sky is a masterpiece itself, with swirling clouds painted in broad, expressive strokes of beige, peach, and white, contrasting beautifully against a backdrop of deep, clear blue. These clouds evoke a sense of motion and change, hinting at the ever-evolving nature of both weather and life.
Beneath the birds, the land stretches out in soft, undulating hills covered in shades of green and brown, suggesting a natural, unspoiled environment. The coastline is curvy and inviting, with the water depicted in varying shades of blue and turquoise, indicating shifting depths and the vibrant life beneath the surface.
In the lower part of the image, you can see hints of human settlement, with small buildings and infrastructure outlined modestly, blending into the natural environment rather than dominating it. This subtle detail might suggest a harmonious coexistence of human life with nature.
Artistically, this image could be interpreted as an ode to nature’s beauty and the exhilarating feeling of flight. It might also symbolize the perspective shift that comes with rising above everyday concerns to see the broader picture, echoing themes of freedom, insight, and connection with the natural world.
Larry creates his birch wood panel pieces by seeing the pattern in the birch woods rings. This makes it so that the birch trees themselves have a hand on how the paintings story goes based on how they grew during their lives.
Larry has given us pictures of the unpainted birch panel so people can see what he saw.
