This is an original pottery piece created by Lyn Anderson
A small, round ceramic plate with a glossy, crazed green glaze — the fine network of crackle lines catches the light and gives the surface an aged, hand‑made feeling. Centered on that green field is a boldly painted, simplified red pickup truck seen in profile: rounded cab, a single door drawn with a few confident black outlines, and two oversized black wheels rendered almost like spirals or stylized hubcaps.
Riding in the truck’s bed are three little gnomes, packed shoulder to shoulder. Each gnome is distilled to essentials: a tall, pointed hat (left and right hats are blue, the center one is yellow), a mop of white beard, and a small round nose peeking out — faces more suggested than detailed, which reinforces a folk‑art, storybook quality. The red of the truck pops strongly against the green background, creating a cheerful complementary contrast; the whole scene sits comfortably off‑center, casual and whimsical rather than formal.
The piece reads as playful, decorative folk art. The gnomes invoke fairy‑tale and Scandinavian folklore associations — house or garden guardians, small travelers — while the vintage red pickup brings an Americana, nostalgic note. Together they suggest a lighthearted journey or convoy of luck: a domestic, protective magic set out on a road trip. The crackle glaze and hand‑drawn lines emphasize the object’s crafted nature; it feels like a sweet, handmade accent meant to spark a smile rather than convey a strict narrative.
The pottery is made with Raku clay and is Raku fired. The work was created in 2025.
