These is an original pottery piece created by Lyn Anderson

A small, hand‑made ceramic mug. Its surface is covered in a muted sea‑green/gray glaze that pools slightly in the recessed areas, giving a soft, variegated sheen. The body is decorated with a repeating relief pattern — roughly coin‑sized motifs that are stylized skulls, arranged in neat vertical rows. The raised pattern catches light on the ridges while the indentations stay darker, emphasizing the texture.

The handle is comfortably curved and finished with a little round thumb‑rest at the top where the same motif is echoed, a detail that signals the maker’s care for both form and function. The interior is glazed a darker, glossy tone; the foot shows the natural tan clay peeking through where the glaze thinned at the base. Overall proportions, subtle irregularities and the visible clay at the bottom make it clear this is wheel‑thrown, hand‑finished pottery rather than factory casting.

Artistically, the repeating motif can be read  as a playful, slightly gothic nod to skull imagery (memento mori). The celadon‑like glaze and pooling in the recesses also place it in a ceramic tradition that values tactile surface and understated color — practical, tactile, and quietly expressive.

The pottery is made with stoneware, and is food safe and functional.

The work was created in 2025.

The overall dimensions of the pottery are 5 1/4" tall by 3 1/4" wide.
