This is an original pottery piece created by Roger Neufeld.
A small, hand-formed vessel. It is roughly cylindrical but irregular — its sides swell and pinch in places, giving it an organic, almost ribbed silhouette. The top is rounded, like a little dome or cap that blends into the body rather than ending in a sharp edge.
The surface catches the light with a metallic, iridescent sheen: silvery highlights mingle with warmer, gold- and bronze-tinged areas, while deeper sootier patches collect in the creases. The finish is not uniform — glossy, reflective spots sit beside more muted, rougher sections, suggesting a glaze that pooled and reacted during firing. Fine textural variations and tiny imperfections — dimples, faint striations and uneven rim — make it feel handmade rather than factory-produced.
A soft shadow anchors the piece to the surface, and the way the light skims across its contours emphasizes the vessel’s tactile presence: you can almost feel the cool, glazed surface and the subtle ridges under your fingertips. Overall it reads as a small, intimate object — practical yet sculptural — with an aged, slightly mysterious character.
The piece is made with raku fired clay. The piece was created in 2024.
The overall dimensions of the pottery are 17cm tall with a 8cm diameter.
