This is an original pottery piece created by Roger Neufeld.

A short, rounded ceramic vase, its clean silhouette reminiscent of a small, old-fashioned urn. The surface is banded in soft neutrals: a warm off-white at the top and bottom, and a wide, weathered gray encircling the middle. The glaze at the top has a fine crackle that catches the light, giving the rim a slightly antique, lived-in look, while the gray band has a matte, almost velvety finish with subtle horizontal striations from the maker’s hand.

Affixed to the gray band is a small, sculpted dragonfly — its wings slightly raised as if it has just landed. The dragonfly’s color is a metallic, deep blue with hints of shimmer; under the light it reads as iridescent, contrasting with the muted tones of the vase. The insect’s body and wing veins are delicately defined, adding a tiny point of intricate detail against the otherwise simple form.

Overall the piece feels quietly elegant and tactile: compact and solid in proportion, with a thoughtful balance between smooth glazed shine and rougher, matte textures. The neutral palette and the single decorative accent make it feel like a handcrafted object meant to be both decorative and intimate, inviting a closer look.

The piece is made with raku fired clay. The piece was created in 2023.

The overall dimensions of the pottery are 23cm tall with a 19cm diameter.
