Brenda displays her still life in our gallery and she has photographed and worked with her medium in new and interesting ways. This one being that she went to the local archives and has modified a Photograph of Ross Street Red Deer 1954.
A lone statue stands on a pedestal in the middle of the roadway, forcing an otherwise empty avenue to behave like a monument plaza. The empty asphalt makes the monument feel more lonesome. A vertical "Park Hotel" sign rises above the storefronts, while the neighboring building carries oversized letters reading "SAAN." Rounded mid-century cars line both sides, but none approaches the statue. Fine white scratches spread across the blue-gray sky like textured pencil marks.
The word "hiraeth" is a Welsh word describing a longing for a home or place to which you cannot return or that perhaps never existed.
