This is a pottery piece created by Elizabeth Schapansky. It is part of the "Mother Earth" series.
This is a handmade ceramic plate. It has an circular shape with a softly irregular rim, giving it a crafted, artisanal feel rather than a perfectly uniform factory finish. The glaze is richly textured and glossy, with a muted blue-gray outer field that appears slightly mottled and weathered.
Toward the center, a warm brownish-tan burst spreads outward in an abstract sunburst pattern, with brushy streaks of cream and amber radiating across the surface. These lighter strokes create a strong contrast against the cooler blue tones, making the center feel energetic and organic, almost like a small explosion or a stylized flower. The rim is darker and more heavily glazed, adding depth and framing the design.
The overall effect is rustic yet elegant, with earthy, natural colors and a handcrafted aesthetic. It feels like an object meant to be both functional and decorative, with the glaze patterns giving it a unique, one-of-a-kind character.
The work is made with high fire clay and multiple different glazes.
